Overview

Step into an adventure where Bangladesh’s untouched nature meets its centuries-old heritage. The 6-Day Sundarbans and Bagerhat Wildlife and Culture Tour from Dhaka offers an extraordinary mix of jungle safaris, river journeys, and architectural marvels. Starting with an overnight train ride across the countryside, you’ll glide into the Sundarbans—the largest mangrove forest on earth—where spotted deer graze, dolphins play in tidal rivers, and the elusive Royal Bengal Tiger roams free. Three days of exploration take you to Herbaria Mangrove Trail, Katka Watch Tower, Kachikhali forest, and the conservation-focused Karamjal Wildlife Centre.

Tour Plan

Day 1 – Evening Departure from Dhaka

Your journey begins with pickup from your hotel or Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. By early evening, board the Chitra Express train for Khulna. If your departure falls on a Sunday, travel will be by A/C bus instead. Overnight, watch rural Bangladesh unfold outside your window as you settle into your Sundarban Express train tour adventure.

Day 2 – Entering the Sundarbans

After breakfast, embark on your private vessel and begin your Sundarbans cruise through the labyrinth of rivers, canals, and creeks that make this UNESCO-listed forest so enchanting. The further you glide into the mangroves, the more the modern world seems to slip away. Watch as fishermen in traditional wooden boats cast their nets, while brahminy kites circle above. The journey takes you to the Herbaria Eco Center, where you’ll gain a first-hand understanding of the delicate balance between humans and wildlife in this unique environment. In the afternoon, set off on a guided forest walk — the air rich with the smell of salt and mud — learning how mangrove trees breathe through aerial roots and how animals adapt to this watery world. As dusk falls, the forest comes alive with the chorus of cicadas, frogs, and distant bird calls. Dinner is served under the stars on the deck of your boat, with the gentle rocking of the river as your lullaby.

Day 3 – Katka Safari & Wildlife Encounters

Wake at dawn to the sound of birdsong and set out for an unforgettable safari in the Katka range, famed for its rich wildlife. From the Katka Watch Tower, scan the forest floor for spotted deer moving in herds and listen for the alarm calls that sometimes signal the presence of the elusive Royal Bengal Tiger. Your naturalist guide will point out signs of wildlife — paw prints in the mud, scratch marks on trees, and the sudden flash of a kingfisher diving for fish. Later, board a smaller boat for a thrilling canal ride through hidden waterways where otters play and migratory birds gather. In the afternoon, wander along the serene Katka Sea Beach, where golden sands meet dense green mangroves — a surreal meeting of forest and ocean. As the sun sets in brilliant hues of orange and pink, return to your vessel for an evening of storytelling about Sundarbans legends and enjoy a freshly prepared Bangladeshi dinner.

Day 4 – Return Cruise & Evening in Khulna

Your return journey through the Sundarbans is no less magical. As the morning mist rises from the river, watch for the sudden splash of Irrawaddy and Ganges River dolphins. Stop at the Karamjal Wildlife Breeding Center, where you’ll see the important conservation work being done to protect estuarine crocodiles and spotted deer. Here, you can walk along raised wooden platforms for an up-close look at these creatures while learning about the challenges of preserving biodiversity in a changing climate. The cruise continues gently upriver, giving you more time to relax on deck and absorb the tranquil beauty of this immense forest. By late afternoon, you’ll reach Khulna. After checking into your hotel, you might stroll along the riverside promenade, browse local handicraft markets, or sample Khulna’s famous freshwater fish curries before retiring for the night.

Day 5 – Bagerhat UNESCO Heritage Tour

Today, step back in time as you journey to Bagerhat, known as the “City of Mosques” and a jewel of Bangladesh’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Begin at the majestic Sixty Dome Mosque (Shat Gombuj Masjid), an architectural masterpiece built in the 15th century by Khan Jahan Ali. Marvel at its endless rows of stone pillars and domes, each casting intricate patterns of shadow and light. Continue to the Tomb of Khan Jahan Ali, where history and folklore intertwine — your guide will recount tales of his leadership, charity, and mysticism. Visit smaller yet equally fascinating monuments such as the Nine Dome Mosque, the Singair Mosque, and Chunakhola Mosque, each showcasing unique variations of Bengal Sultanate architecture. Pause by Ghora Dighi Lake, where locals gather and the reflection of domes shimmers in the water. Throughout the day, learn how Islamic architecture blended seamlessly with local Bengali traditions, creating a heritage that still inspires architects today. By evening, return to Khulna with a deeper appreciation of Bangladesh’s layered history and cultural soul. Board the Sundarban Express at 9:45 PM for your overnight journey back to Dhaka. If you’re traveling on a Tuesday, when the train does not operate, a comfortable air-conditioned bus will be arranged instead. Sit back, relax, and enjoy a restful trip to the capital.

Day 6 – Arrival in Dhaka

Arrive at dawn in Dhaka, where you’ll be dropped at your hotel or airport. The journey concludes with unforgettable memories of river safaris, tiger trails, and centuries-old mosques.

A trip of a lifetime.

Staying entrenched in the Mangroves with easy access from our boat to the channels and islands of the Subdarbans. We had many excursions on our flat bottom canoe -all of them brilliant...

Sundarbans Tour, great trip

Great experience to go through the larges mangrove forest by boat and stay overnight on the vessel on the rivers. Even though accommodation and facilities are very basic on board I really liked the trip. Mam Holidays was very helpful to arrange a day-time journey back to Dhaka. My guide, Mizan gave me a lot of valuable information during our stay in the Sundarbans..

5 day Sundarbans Tour

This was a magnificent tour, all that we wsihed for and more, although the tigers did not come to see us. From the moment we were met on the steamer in Dhaka to the end of the tour we were looked after in a friendly, professional way. The driver was good and managed traffic well. In Khulna we wandered round local shops with no hassle, feeling very safe. The smaller boat that took us round Sundarbans was great, a lovely atmosphere created by the captain who was excited when he showed us dolphins and a crocodile. The guides were knowledgable and knew where to find birds, deer and a tiger paw print. The boat staff kept the boat well, very clean, lovely food and staff were always aware of our needs. I would recommend this tour and Bangladesh as a fascinating, safe country to visit..
